postheadericon Becoming a Medical Sonographer

You would probably recognize a sonographer as the person that takes your ultrasounds when you are pregnant, but they perform many different tasks with ultrasounds. They use ultrasounds to check kidneys, hearts, reproductive organs, and other internal structures. If you are interested in the medical field but don’t want to work with blood or needles, you may want to consider becoming a sonographer.

Education Background

If you want to be a medical sonographer, begin by taking classes in high school such as biology, chemistry, anatomy, English, and computer courses in order to have a stable background that will help you in your training. Because you will be using technology and working with anatomy, it is important that you understand these areas.

Training

To begin your training, start by researching and applying to accredited programs. You will usually spend two to three years completing an associate degree in medical sonography. You can find these programs at local colleges or you can get an online degree and take courses like anatomy, biology, English, and algebra.

Certification

Once you have completed your degree you will have to register with the American Registry of Medical Sonographers, which will allow you to take a licensing exam. Very few employers will hire you without these requirements, so it is crucial that you finish the licensing process. Keep in mind that you may have to continue taking classes to keep your certification once you have become employed.

Employment

After becoming certified, you can work at hospitals, clinics, or other organizations that perform ultrasounds. Complete a résumé and begin applying wherever you can. If you already have an organization in mind, check their requirements before you finish your training.

postheadericon Prenatal Medical Advancements

There have been many advancements made in prenatal care, one being the new 4D ultrasound technology. This allows for new parents to see their baby up close and personal as though they were looking at a live picture. Some of the other advancements include testing for deformities and other birth defects.

The Old Days

As recently as a decade ago, doctors would need to be invasive with the baby and the mother in order to determine if there were issues with the pregnancy, or to determine the severity of the issues. This would involve long needles, and high risk for infections, or secondary problems.

Today

Today, ultra sound technicians are able to identify problems early on, without disturbing the baby in utero. There is an online degree program that focuses in on many of these types of fields so that new parents can feel confident with the person using the technology.

How Medical Advancements Protect Infants

The advancements in medicine for prenatal care have helped to protect babies that are at risk, by identifying issues early on. The other major benefit is that doctors are able to take care of problems using minimally invasive techniques. This is much like that of the ultra sound technology in that detection is much sooner, and can be fixed early on.

Happy Baby

Having a happy and fully developed baby mean a greater quality of life for all around. Thanks to the new technology, babies have a better chance at having a long and full life.

postheadericon Preventions from birth deformities

The deformities during the birth are caused due to the genetic imbalance in the body of the mother of child. There are several necessary steps which should be followed by the mother to prevent her child from being deformed, and this doing more than just research in direct star tv medical specials. The mother should have to consult a gynecologist during the pregnancy period and should have to visit the doctor in a regular interval of 15 days. The checkups and tests should be done in the proper time period so that the doctor could guess the situation and conclude the development of the child. The best way of knowing that what the progress of the child is is ultrasound which determines the whole situation in which the child is at the present time. The ultrasound is done by the experienced doctors who are very well trained and have proper knowledge of the procedure. Medical testing is also one of the very necessary aspects to be performed by the mother to take care of the child.

The genealogy offers a very much help to the mother in caring the child. The gynecologist tells a mother whether what they have to do and what they do not have to do in the pregnancy period. The genealogy report helps a doctor to determine the progress and the condition of the child at the time of testing. The doctor calculates the next position which is going to come and resolves all the complications before they take place. The deformities in any child are genetic that means if there is any genetic complication in the mother then the child will face a birth deformity. The mother should have to take preventions at the time of pregnancy so that the child would not face any type of genetic deformity. The process of medical testing starts from the beginning of the pregnancy and ends till the birth of the child takes place.

postheadericon Birth Deformities: An Overview

The word birth deformities is a type of defect in the child by birth which are most commonly also known as congenital defects, these may include various physical deformities, certain hereditary disease and also neural disorders. Birth deformities are a type of functional and structural defects which are present from the time of birth which can cause morphological or neural type of disorders. The major cause of birth deformities is any type of malfunctioning of genes or if any type of loss of gene sequence, the deformity occurred in a chromosome or loss of chromosome and also the surrounding environment of a pregnant lady to which she got exposure or which she had faced. Another factor which is responsible for the deformities by birth involves the intake of drugs or alcoholic beverages at the time of pregnancy. Morphological or the structural birth deformities involves the defects of body parts, as cleft palate is the most common type of structural birth deformity which can be often seen.

Some other structural birth deformities are misshaped cardiac valves, lip cleft, abnormalities in limbs or some times one can also observe club foot disease. The second type of the birth deformities are related to functional disorders which include the problems that occur in the systematic working of different body parts. These deformities also effect the development of an individual as it includes neural or the nervous disabilities, disabilities occurred in proper functioning of sensory organs, disorders in metabolism and also the degenerative type of deformities. Sometimes, the birth deformities occur as the result of combination of different factors. There are several functional deformities which can happen; some of them are spina bifida, Down’s syndrome, mental retardation, Prader-Willi syndrome, cataract, deafness, phenylketonuria, Fragile-X syndrome, hypothyroidism, muscular dystrophy and many more. Thus there are a lot of diseases which can occur as birth deformity sometimes they are also fatal, so at the time of pregnancy one must take a lot of prevention and precautions of the factors by which congenital deformity can occur.

postheadericon Fragile X Syndrome

Another chromosome birth defect that happens in different families is known as Fragile X syndrome. It usually affects the male babies, and it happens in about 1 in 1,500.  Even though 1 in 1,000 girls carry it, only one third of those carriers show signs outwardly of having this defect, which is going to include intellectual impairment.  The retardation range is going to vary from mild cases of it to more severe cases.

Some of the symptoms of this birth defect include a face that is elongated, flat feet, teeth that are overcrowded, heart problems, bad muscle tone, large ears, and tendencies that are like autism.  Children who are affected also sometimes suffer from seizures.

Sometimes children who have this syndrome look like they are normal when they are born, so they are not diagnosed until 18 o 24 months.  At that age, the evidence of no language development paired with other delays developmentally will normally prompt the test to be run

Like what is going to happen with Down Syndrome, children that have this will be able to do most of the things that other children are able to do, even though they usually are going to do to do the things later in life. Also, as it is with most of similar birth defects, when there are programs for early prevention started while the child is still an infant it can help with maximizing the development of the child.

Children who have this have a long road ahead of them and so does their family. The family and the children who have this birth defect need some help and support to help them to get through the tough times that are ahead of them.

postheadericon The Beginning

When you first find out that you are pregnant, you are generally full of excitement as well as a large amount of anxiety. “What will these next nine months be like?” you wonder. Here is some basic information on what to expect.

The first three months are usually the worst for symptoms. After this, some of the symptoms associated with pregnancy subside. The most prominent of these is morning sickness. While some people feel only a little sick and mostly are able to continue just fine, some women feel nauseous for most of the day. The good news is that most of this feeling will dissapate once you reach the end of the first trimester.

You will also feel a good bit of fatigue during this stage. The amount of exhaustion you feel should decrease as your body adjusts to its new changes. The best thing you can do is get as much rest as you feel you need, since your body is exhuasted because it needs more rest. As you move from the first to the second trimester, you will probably notice an increase of energy.

Women generally also experience a tenderness in their breasts during this time, but this, too, should not last until past the first trimester. This is a usual and normal symtom, caused by hormones changing due to the pregnancy, as well as changes in your body’s shape that will help you to continue to support your baby for the rest of the pregnancy. Wearing a supportive bra will help decrease any uncomfortability during this time.

The best part of this stage of the pregnancy is the congratulations. Get ready for a whole lot of good wishes and pregnancy survival tips from your friends and family, and don’t worry about passing the time while pregnant, we have many online colleges, in which you can join to keep yourself busy during this period! postheadericon Cleft Palate/Lip

Perhaps one of the most devastating birth defects for parents is when their baby is born with a cleft palate or lip, because it’s so noticeable. It happens in approximately 1 in 700 babies that are born to Caucasian parents, and more in Asian babies and those who are members of certain Native American tribes. It doesn’t happen very often among the African American community.

It ‘s hard to figure out what causes it, but it the likely factors are environmental and genetic, both of which interact to prevent the upper lip, soft palate, or the hard palate from closing.

The cleft may be mild, and simply just appear as notch in the baby’s upper lip, or it could be severe, and include the nostril’s floor, the lip, and the baby’s dental arch. The development of language may be affected by the palate and lip’s structure and by side effects of infections in the middle ear that often accompany this birth defect due to the fact that the ears aren’t draining properly.

Babies that have this birth defect also need some help with eating, although those whose lip is usually odn’t have a lot of problems with eating. Due to the fact that they have a lot of trouble with sucking, they have to eat sitting up using a bottle that’s special.  If the condition is very severe, breastfeeding moms might have to pump their milk and use the bottle to feed the baby until it’s been repaired.

The surgery to fix the cleft lip needs to be done no later than 3 months old. For a cleft palate, the surgery is done later in life, around 6 months to a year so that the baby’s face can grow normally.

Even though there’s sometimes follow-up treatment that needs to be done, the repair of a cleft palate or lip will normally leave the baby with only a bit of scarring as well as a face that looks like the majority of children.

postheadericon Congenital Heart Defect

One of the most common types of birth defects that happen in babies is a congenital heart defect.  They occur in approximately 1 in 110 babies that are born.  They have a few different causes, including abnormalities in the genes and mistakes that happened while the fetus was developing.  Some of them are very mild and have no symptoms that are undetected without medical equipment.

One of the ways that it’s found is through a normal examination when the doctor hears a heart murmur. Some of the murmurs don’t mean anything, but usually the doctor is going to want to run more tests to find out if it’s because of a defect in the heart. .

The heart defects which are more serious can be detected and if they aren’t treated can lead to something known as congestive heart failure. This is when the baby’s heart can’t pump enough blood to the baby’s lungs or other organs.

The symptoms of a congenital heart defecta re:

  • Problems breathing
  • Rapid heartbeat
  • Bluish or pale grey skin
  • Problems with feeding, which will lead to not enough weight gain.
  • Swelling in the baby’s abdomen, around their eyes, or in their legs

Most of the defects can be improved or corrected through drugs, surgery, or something like a pacemaker.  It’s hard for parents to hear that their baby has a congenital heart defect and there are plenty of support groups that they can find both online and offline to talk to for support and advice. If you have a baby that’s been diagnosed, don’t panic.  Most of them can be fixed easily and without any other trouble to the baby.

postheadericon Eating Your Way to a Stronger Immune System

Building a strong immune system should be top priority for anyone, but especially for those with weaker systems or who tend to get sick more often. Getting a healthy immune system does not have to mean taking a load of supplements everyday, however. It also does not have to mean you need a lifestyle change. A relatively simple way to boost your immune system is to eat different foods more often. Here are some foods to pick up for a more robust immune system.

Fruits. Most fruit contain healthy amounts of vitamin C, one of the most common vitamins suggested for people who want to help out their immune system. By eating six servings of fruit a day, you can reach 200 milligrams of vitamin C, the recommended amount of vitamin C for a better immune system.

Vitamin E. This vitamin, which helps your body fend off bacteria, is available in vegetable oil and in seeds. It is one of the harder vitamins to give yourself enough of in food (you need over one hundred milligrams per day). However, you may get the proper amount by switching to 100% first cold pressed olive oil will give you more nutritional benefits, and therefore more vitamin E.

Garlic. This food is excellent at building up white blood cells, clearing out your blood stream, and helping your immune system build protection from bacteria. Doctors believe these powers come from garlic high content in sulfides. As well as being good for you, garlic is also a common and delicious addition to many dishes, giving it excellent flavor. If you are not a fan of a strong garlic taste, however, do not despair! There are many recipes that call for garlic, but where garlic is not the only or the main flavor. Be sure to look up recipes containing garlic to increase your eating palate, as well as to help out your immune system.
