Prenatal Medical Advancements
There have been many advancements made in prenatal care, one being the new 4D ultrasound technology. This allows for new parents to see their baby up close and personal as though they were looking at a live picture. Some of the other advancements include testing for deformities and other birth defects.
The Old Days
As recently as a decade ago, doctors would need to be invasive with the baby and the mother in order to determine if there were issues with the pregnancy, or to determine the severity of the issues. This would involve long needles, and high risk for infections, or secondary problems.
Today
Today, ultra sound technicians are able to identify problems early on, without disturbing the baby in utero. There is an online degree program that focuses in on many of these types of fields so that new parents can feel confident with the person using the technology.
How Medical Advancements Protect Infants
The advancements in medicine for prenatal care have helped to protect babies that are at risk, by identifying issues early on. The other major benefit is that doctors are able to take care of problems using minimally invasive techniques. This is much like that of the ultra sound technology in that detection is much sooner, and can be fixed early on.
Happy Baby
Having a happy and fully developed baby mean a greater quality of life for all around. Thanks to the new technology, babies have a better chance at having a long and full life.

A Perfect Gift for a Poker Player

Not to toot my own horn, but I’m an awesome gift giver. If there was a game show for picking out gifts I would win hands down. It’s all about matching personalities with the gift. It doesn’t matter if the gift is big or small, if it is ideal for that intended person you’ll know by the way they light up when they unwrap the present. My gift-giving talents don’t just work when I’m buying a gift for someone; I’m often called on by my friends to help them pick out a present. My last “assignment” was pitch perfect.
A neighbor was looking for a birthday present for her 16-year-old son. Like most teenage boys he would mumble a response when asked what he would like. All I needed to do is a little detective work. I asked his mom what Junior likes to do when he’s not watching TV or listening to his iPod. She said that lately he has gotten into playing Texas Hold ‘Em with his friends. I knew exactly what she was talking about. This is that popular poker game that everyone is into these days. When the teens play it’s just for nickels and dimes, but it also keeps them indoors and in one place for most of the night. That’s a mom’s perfect dream. So the gift idea was easy: a professional-style poker table.
Luckily for my friend, I had done my research and found a great site that not only sells a wide variety of poker tables, but also offers free shipping on all the orders. I helped her picked out a table and we even got a custom design with the logo of his favorite football team printed right on the table. Now his friends come over every Saturday night to play. His mom can’t stop thanking me! Hey, it’s what I do!
Meditate to Naturally Reduce Stress

- Image via Wikipedia
The search for stress relief is for many like the quest for the Holy Grail. The difference is that stress relief is not as difficult to find, and anybody can do it. Using meditation as a way to effectively combat and reduce stress is easy, free and takes just minutes a day.
The key to using meditation to reduce stress is to practice it often, so that your body becomes acclimated to the process and so that it becomes easier each time to reach the state of calm necessary to reduce or eliminate stress. Meditation is particularly important while pregnant because it is a natural tool against a powerful condition that can not only affect you but your fetus as well.
Unchecked stress can have all sorts of ramifications both physical and mental. Not only will you generally feel stressed, agitated, short tempered and even perhaps angry, but your body will feel the effects and you may begin to have headaches, back pain, fatigue and other potentially serious conditions.
Achieving a state of meditation is simple. When you have a few minutes of calm, simply sit or lie down in a relaxed position and focus on regulating your breath. Take deep inhalations and slowly exhale. Try to focus on your breathing and calm your mind by feeling the breath move in and out of your body. It may help to hold an image in your mind, like a beautiful strand of Mikimoto Pearls; focus on the image or your breath and slowly calm your body and mind.
With a little bit of practice, you can quickly enter a calming state and let the stress dissolve around you. Maintaining this state of calm meditation for even just a few minutes will do much to reduce your stress level and thereby improve your overall health.
A Glimpse in the Life of a Stay at Home Mom
Every mom knows that her days are filled with a seemingly endless list of activities. Of course, contrary to what some people may think being a stay-at-home-mom is not the easiest job in the world. It is not for every mom, but for those who choose it, it’s a job in itself.
For SAHMs it really takes lots of organizing and planning to get everything done. Not only the cooking and cleaning, but also the school drop offs, pickup at the cleaner’s and even renewing the pet insurance. Don’t forget the PTA meetings and other various activities – softball, tennis, swimming and whatever else your kids are involved in.
Stay-at-home-moms are used to people believing that they have nothing to do all day. Some may smile secretly knowing that many people would run screaming after just a few days in their shoes. Apart from all the house related work they do, many SAHMs contribute financially to their family’s kitty. Many of them work online from home.
Making a Checklist
One way SAHMs manage is by having a checklist of things to do for the week or month, or, for those really organized ones, a daily checklist. The details depend on what works best for you.
Some moms will set time limits while others will only list their tasks. An annual checklist may include birthday reminders and gift ideas for special occasions such as Christmas. Monthly checklists on the other hand can deal with non-typical payments like prom dresses and events to be attended. These types of events may include some necessary things like paying the car insurance, paying for pet insurance, etc.
No one can truly understand or appreciate the role of a stay-at-home-mom until they have been one. It’s one of those things that no amount of planning can really prepare you for. In fact, while some people may disagree, for some women and stay-at-home-dads as well, it can be one of the most fulfilling jobs in the world.
Stay At Home Moms Can Go To College, Too
Being a stay at home mom is a tough job and not just because of driving kids to sports games, preparing peanut butter and jelly sandwiches all the time and ensuring that the fridge is always supplied with juice. Even the most dedicated mom needs to have a hobby or activity that is for her and isn’t kid-related, or she’s in for a stressful time. Some women choose crafts. Some write. If you aren’t the type for creative pursuits or whiling your time away and want to do something really productive with the hours your kids are in school, why not consider going back to college?
That’s impossible, you protest–college is a full-time, all-day kind of thing, and who would take care of the kids? Well, thanks to modern technology and the Internet, you don’t have to dedicate full-time hours every day to attend full-time college. With web sites like earnmydegree.com, it’s entirely possible to earn a college degree without ever setting foot out of your home. Imagine studying to be a graphic artist, web designer or other cutting-edge career in the time when the kids are at school and graduating with a college degree when they are just starting summer break!
Online colleges offer the same selection of degrees that traditional in-person colleges do, so after a two-year degree (which can be completed online in as little as six months), why not try for a Bachelor’s degree? Who knows, maybe someday you could even get your Master’s degree (also offered online) and even an online job, all without neglecting your playtime with the kids!
With financial aid and digital download library copies of textbooks now available, it likely won’t even cost you anything to go to college the flexible way, so go ahead–check out the kinds of courses you could take and see if you’d like to get a degree.
