Bonding Through Blindness
If your baby was born with impaired vision, you may feel at a loss as to how to connect with your baby, or to know how your baby is responding to you, without the usual connection of eye contact. The following tips can help you understand how your baby relates to you, as well as how you can connect to your baby even more, and see how he or she has their own way of relating and responding to you.
First, you should understand that your voice and your touch are of higher importance to your baby as a replacement for the ability to see you. One of the best ways you can give your baby attention and love is by holding her and talking to her. She should hear your voice constantly, as this will bring the two of you closer together as you can begin to see how she responds to your voice and listens to you.
Touch is also important. Holding your baby, playing with her, and carrying her is much more important than with other babies. Extra movement is something that babies who are visually impaired enjoy more than other infants, so be sure to take walks with your baby—and keep her in your arms, or in a carrier on you, not in a stroller. This will help you bond with your baby even more.
Scent is also of heightened importance for blind infants. Therefore, your baby may become attached to your perfume or your scent. While it may not seem like a significant thing to you, it is one more way that your baby can recognize you and feel attached to you. As you spend more time with your baby, you will begin to understand the way she communicates, as well as the way she responds and reacts. The more time you spend talking, singing, and playing with your baby, the closer your bond will become.
How Pregnancy Resources Can Prepare You for Parenthood
Now that you’re pregnant, what are you supposed to do? You’ve noticed an increase in your appetite, a fluctuation in your emotions, and an impending sense of excitement; but what is the best way to spend your nine prenatal months preparing for the arrival of your newborn child?
With a reliable pregnancy guide, the pregnancy process doesn’t have to be a mystery. Pregnancy guides can tell you what to expect, when to expect it, and what you can do to make the pregnancy process just a little bit easier.
For example, the average healthy person should be consuming somewhere around 2,000 calories a day. A pregnant woman, on the other hand, is “eating for two.” This means she should be eating anywhere between 300 and 500 additional calories in a day, while ensuring that what she eats is a reliable vehicle for the right kind of nutrients and vitamins. A pregnancy resource can forecast appetites and tell what is best to eat, and when it’s best to eat it.
Similarly, there are exercises and stretches an expecting mother can do to keep herself loose and nimble and prepare for an easy labor period. With the sudden addition of added weight to a mother’s body, staying physically fit is as important as ever. With the right stretches and exercises, the mother can avoid pulled muscles, back strain, and other types of incapacitating injuries.
Being pregnant is an exciting and important time in a woman’s life, and it also shows that motherhood starts even before the baby is born. A pregnancy guide can also give you tips on emotional and social health, because they say that even while in the womb, a baby can be affected by its mother’s mental well-being.
Supplement your personal pregnancy guide with the support and wisdom of a community and start giving your child the life it deserves even before it enters the world.

Premature Birth Rates in America
Premature birth is one of the leading causes of infant death in the United States. Babies that are born too early are at risk of life long challenges in having disabilities such as cerebral palsy. Each state is rated by the March of Dimes every year to determine the percentage of babies born before 38 week development.
In the United States premature births were reported to have gone down in 2008, being in the 12 percent bracket. This was compared to the percentage being at 12.9 in 2007. This in fact was a major decrease for 2006 when premature deaths were at a high of almost 13.5 percent!
Although these numbers have decreased, it is still noted that the number of infant deaths in America are way too high. Many factors play a part in premature infants from diet to proper health care. The Surgeon General reported that more can be done to prevent these premature deaths from happening.
For one, health insurance should be provided for all pregnant women. It is important for woman to have checkups to make sure that her and baby are devolving correctly.
Woman should be remained that smoking while pregnant is a not acceptable! Smoking can cause blood and air flow to be deprived from the child. Improper air flow can cause the baby to be under developed. Last, but not lease, woman need to be educated about proper nutrition and exercise. Poor diets can lean to having an under nourished infant. If the child is not getting the nutrients that is needed for development, this can case heath problems such as low weight gain and brain development. It’s not just the woman who needs to be educated, but physicals need to remind their patients of the importance of staying healthy during and after pregnancy!
Avoiding Babies With Birth Defects
When attempting to take precautions against birth deformities there is one thing that any impending parent must be aware of and that is that all the precautions in the world cannot protect 100 percent against birth deformities or defects. Certainly there are certain steps that can be taken to protect as much as humanly possible but in the end quite a bit of the chances we take when we give birth are left up to blind luck.
We’ve all heard about the warnings against smoking and drinking while a woman is pregnant because it may affect the health of the baby but in all actuality we don’t have any idea how much smoking or how much drinking will actually damage a fetus. No one really knows exactly how much smoking will make your baby come down with asthma or other defects. In reality all medical science is a little bit of guessing and a little bit of science. The human body is so incredibly complex that even when we know exactly what we can do to harm our children or protect them.
There are of course some things we can do to take steps to avoid at all costs. Taking any kind of drug like LSD or Heroin or Cocaine while a woman is pregnant is almost guaranteed to have a baby who has some sort of birth deformities. These deformities will be much bigger if there are a lot of drugs being consumed. Clean living will not guarantee that a couple has a completely healthy baby but at this current point in time that is the only way we can really come even close to guaranteeing something like that.
Healthy living is the only steps we can really take in order to make sure that our babies come out healthy and without any birth deformities.
Coming To Terms With Infertility
Being told that a couple cannot conceive can be feel a bit like telling a couple they only have a week to live in some regards. A couple that has been trying everything they can think of to have a child, being told that no matter what they do it will not work is one of the worst things that couple can hear. That is why the reaction to that news can seem to take the usual progression through the stages of grief as if someone actually has died.
Of course when they first receive the news there will be the usual denial, that the tests must have come up wrong and that in reality they can indeed have a child and that it is the doctor who is clearly mistaken. Then comes the bargaining, where the couple tells the doctor or the facility representative that they will do whatever it takes to make it right, to do whatever it takes to have that child and there must be something that can be done.
The next step is anger at everyone and everything. Raging at the doctor or the nurses who are merely there to help them try and get through this difficult time. They may even rage at each other depending on how truly despondent they are, though generally there is a team mentality that encompasses the couple during this period of time.
Finally after they go through a few stages where they actually fight the news with everything they have comes the acceptance. Must like death, the inability to have a child is something that in reality probably was known to the couple before they received the news.
It is merely coming to terms with the news that they will most likely have to deal with the repercussions in their own time and in their own way.
Health And Pregnancy
Staying healthy when a woman is pregnant is one of the most important part of the pregnancy in general. Of course being told you need to stay healthy is really helping anyone because as a general rule everyone already knows that “staying healthy” is something that should be a goal but how do you actually do that?
One way, when you are pregnant is to try and get some sort of exercise every day at least at the beginning of the process. Of course at some point doctors will tell you that it is far more important to rest and relax and build up your strength for the coming ordeal. Still at the beginning of the pregnancy there is no reason you can’t still keep up some sort of workout regime. This does not mean that you should work yourself to the point of exhaustion. You do not want to be dropping because you can’t handle the strain in the early going of a pregnancy but if you are able to handle the cardio portion of your usual workout then it is most likely safe to continue. Of course you should always check with your physician as they will be the final and complete authority on everything regarding the pregnancy.
It may seem like the warning isn’t needed in this day and age but it is worth pointing out that if you are a heavy drinker or smoker it would do both your own body as well as the body of your unborn child a world of good to quit. There are plenty of medical professionals who will also tell you that it is best to completely stay away from both, not merely to cut down as there is no hard and fast rule as to how much alcohol or cigarettes will actually cause your baby harm.
Dealing With Deformities in Children
Dealing with a child who has birth deformities can at times seem like an overwhelming task. At any given time the parent of a child with birth defects will run the gauntlet of blame from the community you live in, to thinking it was somehow the spouse’s fault that things have turned out the way they have, to blaming the doctors for somehow doing something that caused their child to be the way they are. Eventually most will even blame god for allowing such a horrible thing to happen but in the end who is to blame becomes secondary to actually dealing with the problem and caring for the child.
What the parents eventually need to come to terms with is that there are some birth deformities and defects that simply cannot be avoided or planned for no matter what preparations you make. Problems like the child developing Autism as they enter their toddler years doesn’t mean that the parents did something horrible and they somehow damaged their child. These kinds of diseases and deformities are a roll of the dice and on occasion that roll will come up snake eyes. What needs to be done if these parents start feeling as though they cannot handle the situation or cannot handle the child is for those parents to get help.
There are plenty of different organizations that understand birth deformities and defects in a family can be a tremendous toll on the family and even people like counselors need counseling. What the parents and other members of the families need to understand is that having problems dealing with the problems is not a matter of not being tough or smart enough. Everyone has days when they feel overwhelmed and they are trying to hold the tide back. Parents of children with birth deformities just need to realize there is help out there and they merely need to take advantage of it.
Coping With Family Problems
Every year, thousands of parents learn they have deal with the problems that are associated with having a child who has some sort of birth deformity or defect. Every year these thousands of parents also initially feel as though they are all alone in the world and think that no one could possibly know what it is they are going through. Every year these thousands of parents could not be more wrong. Birth defects and deformities are certainly not a new thing. For whatever reason, the human condition has long come complete with unfortunately having to deal with a child who was born with significant problems for one reason or another.
What has changed over the decades is that cults as a whole understands that these are not some side effect of the parents being terrible people or having done something that they needed to be punished for. As medicine has advanced we have become all the more aware that what these parents and families need is not shunning and having people cluck their tongues at them but rather some real understanding of what they are going through and someone they can discuss their problems with.
There are also thousands of counselors every year who see a parent or parents who feel as though they are the only ones who are going through some tramautic event when in fact these counselors have had to deal with something similar in the session just before them. These counselors are specializing in helping peopel through problems they know can be overcome if approached the right way. They know that while at the moment the world can seem a dark and unfriendly place there is a light at the end of that darkness. These counselors can help the parents deal with their feelings, but that isn’t the real reason for these sessions. The counselors can also teach the parents how to be proactive when tackling the problems head on.
