Coping with Premenstrual Syndrome
All women go through the monthly troubles of PMS, but it can be far worse for others. If you find that you are having difficulty functioning with your monthly cycle, take a look at these simple tips.
Stay Healthy. Eating right and exercising regularly all of the time is one of the best ways to help regulate your cycle, as well as to keep it in good health. If you have trouble keeping yourself in top shape, you should consider reworking your schedule or even cutting out some other activities so that you have time to eat right and be active.
Exert some energy. Even though it feels like you just want to sit on the couch all day during your period or fourteenth day, it can be good for you and may help you feel better if you do just a little bit of exercise. This is actually one proven way of reducing cramps. While you should not do some overly strenuous, going on a walk could be a good idea, as well as doing some soothing pilates.
Rest and sleep comfortably. To relieve pain and discomfort, many women say that taking a hot bathe works excellently, as does using a hot pack. Be sure to give your body enough rest, or your system may become irregular and cause more pain and cramps throughout the month. As this is the case, it is just as important not to cheat your body of sleep during your period, when your body is under more stress.
Medicate. Of course, the easiest thing to do is to take a pain killer to reduce cramping, bloating, and pain. Naproxen-sodium is ideal for this, as it not only decreases pain but focuses on reducing swelling. For women with more severe pain, it may be recommended that they take a birth-control pill to regulate their cycle and significantly reduce discomfort.
