postheadericon Bonding Through Blindness

If your baby was born with impaired vision, you may feel at a loss as to how to connect with your baby, or to know how your baby is responding to you, without the usual connection of eye contact. The following tips can help you understand how your baby relates to you, as well as how you can connect to your baby even more, and see how he or she has their own way of relating and responding to you.

First, you should understand that your voice and your touch are of higher importance to your baby as a replacement for the ability to see you. One of the best ways you can give your baby attention and love is by holding her and talking to her. She should hear your voice constantly, as this will bring the two of you closer together as you can begin to see how she responds to your voice and listens to you.

Touch is also important. Holding your baby, playing with her, and carrying her is much more important than with other babies. Extra movement is something that babies who are visually impaired enjoy more than other infants, so be sure to take walks with your baby—and keep her in your arms, or in a carrier on you, not in a stroller. This will help you bond with your baby even more.

Scent is also of heightened importance for blind infants. Therefore, your baby may become attached to your perfume or your scent. While it may not seem like a significant thing to you, it is one more way that your baby can recognize you and feel attached to you. As you spend more time with your baby, you will begin to understand the way she communicates, as well as the way she responds and reacts. The more time you spend talking, singing, and playing with your baby, the closer your bond will become.

postheadericon Eating Your Way to a Stronger Immune System

Building a strong immune system should be top priority for anyone, but especially for those with weaker systems or who tend to get sick more often. Getting a healthy immune system does not have to mean taking a load of supplements everyday, however. It also does not have to mean you need a lifestyle change. A relatively simple way to boost your immune system is to eat different foods more often. Here are some foods to pick up for a more robust immune system.

Fruits. Most fruit contain healthy amounts of vitamin C, one of the most common vitamins suggested for people who want to help out their immune system. By eating six servings of fruit a day, you can reach 200 milligrams of vitamin C, the recommended amount of vitamin C for a better immune system.

Vitamin E. This vitamin, which helps your body fend off bacteria, is available in vegetable oil and in seeds. It is one of the harder vitamins to give yourself enough of in food (you need over one hundred milligrams per day). However, you may get the proper amount by switching to 100% first cold pressed olive oil will give you more nutritional benefits, and therefore more vitamin E.

Garlic. This food is excellent at building up white blood cells, clearing out your blood stream, and helping your immune system build protection from bacteria. Doctors believe these powers come from garlic high content in sulfides. As well as being good for you, garlic is also a common and delicious addition to many dishes, giving it excellent flavor. If you are not a fan of a strong garlic taste, however, do not despair! There are many recipes that call for garlic, but where garlic is not the only or the main flavor. Be sure to look up recipes containing garlic to increase your eating palate, as well as to help out your immune system.

postheadericon Avoiding the Flu in Flu Season

Every year, some awful case of the flu goes around the office and around the school. For those students and workers of any categories like online trading broker etc with weaker immune systems, getting sick seems inevitable. However, taking extra care of your body during this year’s season may give you a better chance of avoiding the usual sick days. Here are some things you can do:

Relax. Your immune system loses strength when your body is under stress, so one of the best things you can do to put yourself at a lower risk for a virus is to lower your stress level during the flu’s peak season. Whether this means avoiding stressful commitments, or penciling in extra down time, you need to keep your body and mind from being wound up in worry and constant activity.

Get sleep. As you need to avoid unnecessary busyness to keep healthy, you also need to make sure that you are getting the rest you need. Sleep is one of the primary times that your immune system reenergizes itself, so be sure to get at least eight hours or more. This is even more important if you are extremely busy at this time as well. The extra sleep may help counteract any strain your body feels, allowing your immune system to stay strong.

Load up on vitamins. Vitamins like Zinc are excellent vitamins to take when you are worried about getting sick. While you can decide to take one or two vitamins separately, you can also find a supplement that contains multiple vitamins. In fact, there are now several brands that contain a tablet or powder that you can dissolve in water that are specifically designed to give a person an overload of vitamins to help them resist or recover from a virus. Even if you still contract a virus, pampering your immune system to prepare for the fight will most likely allow you to recover faster and may give you a less severe case.

postheadericon Alternative Medicine for Cramps.

Lavender Sage (Salvia greatae) Essential Oil i...

Image via Wikipedia

While traditional medication can help relieve cramps, it can allow little relief for some women. Other women react poorly to its side effects, and others are wary of overloading their system or overdosing on medication. If you are looking for an alternative remedy for your cramps and discomfort, these remedies may help.

Lavender heat pack. This homemade heat pack not only soothes the area by adding heat, but the lavender has been said to help relax muscles. To create this pack, fill an old sock with uncooked rice, and add a drop or two of essential oil of lavender. Heat the pack in the microwave, and then place on the stomach, back, or wherever you feel discomfort.

Fish Oil. The omega 3 fatty acids in fish oil have shown to reduce cramps, sometimes by over 50%, when taken for longer than two months. Several studies have concluded this, including a study by the University of Cincinnati in 1996.

Magnesium. Women who are deficient in magnesium have been shown to experience worse cramps than women who are not. While you can add a magnesium supplement to your diet, you can also increase your levels of magnesium by reducing tour intake of alcohol, sugar, and carbonated drinks.

Massage. Massaging your sore muscles is something that comes naturally, of course. Adding a soothing oil and more essential oil of lavender may also be a good way to relax and soothe these muscles.

Aromatherapy Bath. If a hot pack decreases your discomfort, a long hot bath certainly will. Adding some essential oil of your choice will also allow both your mind a body to relax. Chamomile is a good choice, but you could also use rosemary, or lemon balm.

However you decide to use these tips, when in combination with each other or with traditional medication, it is always good to have several ideas on hand for a bad day or for when you need a little extra healing.

postheadericon Long-Term Methods of Birth Control

These forms of birth control last for years and are sometimes not reversible. While costing more money upfront, these methods can be the more inexpensive route in the long run because they do not require upkeep or further costs over the years.

The first of these forms of birth control is a vasectomy. A vasectomy is a surgical procedure that blocks the sperm from being passed into the seminal fluid. This procedure has very few side effects, and does not affect sexual drive or ability. This procedure is not considered reversible, although some doctors claim they can reverse it. If you plan on or would like to have children at a later time, you should not consider this means of birth control. Since this procedure is considered permanent, it may be wise to discuss the possibility with your spouse.

Sterilization for women is a procedure that prevents the ovaries from passing an egg through the fallopian tubes, thereby preventing pregnancy. There are several different procedures for this, one of which, called tubal sterilization, is reversible. While tubal sterilization requires surgery, other procedures do not require incisions. Some kinds of this type of birth control are not effective immediately, and may take as long as three to six months to become effective. This type of birth control can effect a woman’s cycle, or can make her premenstrual syndrome worse.

The intrauterine device, called the IUD, is a very common form of long-term birth control that is easily reversed. The IUD is a small, T-shaped piece of plastic that is inserted into the woman’s uterus. Some women also experience discomfort because of the device, but this will usually subside. One type of IUD causes a woman’s period to be longer and heavier than it was previously, while the other type emits a hormone that shortens a woman’s period. The IUD  is a very effective method of birth control, and, while expensive upfront, can last for twelve years. If you want to know more about long term birth control programs, we have many online degree programs available.

postheadericon Birth Control: Hormonal Methods

While there are many different types of birth control, hormonal methods are one of the most common methods of birth control because they can be extremely easy to use and are very effective. Here are three common forms this type of birth control takes; the birth control pill, the vaginal ring, and the birth control shot.

The birth control pill is by far the most common form of this kind of birth control. It involves taking a pill at the same time of day every day. Through a change in hormone levels, this should restrict a woman’s cycle to a very regular schedule, and, because of the hormone changes, prevent pregnancy by keeping the ovaries from releasing eggs. Because of differences in brands, it can matter greatly if a woman does not take the pill at the same time every day, and can have a variety of side effects.

Another common form of this kind of birth control is the vaginal ring. This requires a little less daily effort, as the ring is inserted into the vagina once a month, and left there for three weeks. It is removed for the fourth week. The ring releases hormones, as the birth control pill does. While having many similar side effects as the pill, the vaginal ring may also increase vaginal discomfort and infection.

The birth control shot is another hormone-releasing form of birth control. This method must be administered only once every three months. Like others, it releases a hormone that prevents the ovaries from releasing eggs. This method typically has the same side effects as others, including nausea, loss of appetite, bleeding, and change in sex drive.

It is important to know your options for birth control and to find one that works for you. Be sure to talk to your doctor if you have any questions or concerns about the type of birth control you are using or would like to use.

postheadericon How Pregnancy Resources Can Prepare You for Parenthood

Now that you’re pregnant, what are you supposed to do? You’ve noticed an increase in your appetite, a fluctuation in your emotions, and an impending sense of excitement; but what is the best way to spend your nine prenatal months preparing for the arrival of your newborn child?

With a reliable pregnancy guide, the pregnancy process doesn’t have to be a mystery. Pregnancy guides can tell you what to expect, when to expect it, and what you can do to make the pregnancy process just a little bit easier.

For example, the average healthy person should be consuming somewhere around 2,000 calories a day. A pregnant woman, on the other hand, is “eating for two.” This means she should be eating anywhere between 300 and 500 additional calories in a day, while ensuring that what she eats is a reliable vehicle for the right kind of nutrients and vitamins. A pregnancy resource can forecast appetites and tell what is best to eat, and when it’s best to eat it.

Similarly, there are exercises and stretches an expecting mother can do to keep herself loose and nimble and prepare for an easy labor period. With the sudden addition of added weight to a mother’s body, staying physically fit is as important as ever. With the right stretches and exercises, the mother can avoid pulled muscles, back strain, and other types of incapacitating injuries.

Being pregnant is an exciting and important time in a woman’s life, and it also shows that motherhood starts even before the baby is born. A pregnancy guide can also give you tips on emotional and social health, because they say that even while in the womb, a baby can be affected by its mother’s mental well-being.

Supplement your personal pregnancy guide with the support and wisdom of a community and start giving your child the life it deserves even before it enters the world.

postheadericon Birth Control: Natural Methods

Natural forms of birth control are forms that do not require either barriers or hormones. These methods are based on planned abstinence, meaning a couple will not have sex during the woman’s fertile days. This type of birth control is not recommended for women who have irregular periods, periods that are shorter than 26 days or longer than 32 days.

The most common form of this type of birth control is the Standard Day method, which marks days eight through nineteen of every cycle as “fertile days,” when a couple should not have sex. To help women remember which days are safe and which are not, some companies sell “cycle beads,” which have different colored beads for fertile days and infertile days.

There is also another form of this type of birth control, called the Calender Day method. For this method to be most effective, a woman should record her cycle for at least eight months to one year. Once this is done, she uses a formula to calculate her fertile and infertile days. This allows a woman to get a more exact estimate of when she is most likely to be fertile. However, it is slightly less consistent than the Standard Days method.

Other methods of natural birth control, also called natural family planning, use temperature to compute fertility. There are also computer programs that can help a woman to more accurately plot out her cycle.

This form of birth control, if followed correctly, is very effective. However, partners must either have an alternative form of birth control to use on fertile days, or they must have very high self-control. Also, since this form of birth control is very easy to use incorrectly, it is recommended that partners also use another form of birth control, such as spermicide. It is also important the both partners are willing to help with this form of birth control in order for it to be most effective.

postheadericon Birth Control: Barrier Methods

Barrier methods as a form of birth control can be more comfortable for women who are more sensitive to hormonal changes. They also do not require much thought or work in advance, unlike hormonal methods. However, barrier method birth control can be less effective than hormonal methods. Its effectiveness can be increased by using spermicide, as well as by always using the contraceptive devices as directed.

The most common form of this kind of birth control is the condom. The condom works by blocking sperm from getting into the vagina. One of the benefits of the condom is that it is simple to use and has very few side effects. However, some men have trouble keeping an erection or ejaculating while wearing a condom. Men also complain that a condom feels like “wearing socks in the shower,” as they lose the ability to feel their partner during sex.

Another common form of this type of birth control is the diaphragm. A diaphragm works by blocking the uterus, which does not allow the sperm to attach to an egg.  One of the things that makes the diaphragm so popular is that it is generally not noticeable to either partner and, when used correctly, can be very effective. However, the diaphragm must be inserted before the woman is sexually excited, and this requires more planning in advance than the condom. The cervical cap works much the same as the diaphragm, but has different advantages and disadvantages. Both of these devices are more effective in women who have never been pregnant.

Finally, there is the female condom. This works the same way that a regular condom does, and so has similar pros and cons. Some people complain that it decreases feeling. Many women also complain that it causes vaginal discomfort, as well as increased chances of infection. However, unlike the diaphragm, a women does not need to be measured for a female condom, making it more easily available.

postheadericon Keeping Your Children Warm During the Cold Winter Months

Throwing a snowball in Boston
Image via Wikipedia

As a parent, you know the importance of taking good care of your children. That doesn’t just mean providing food and shelter, but also love and appreciation. Another thing you need to do is make sure that they stay warm. Unless you live in a part of the country where it’s almost never chilly, like parts of Hawaii or the Florida Keys, it’s going to be cold enough for a jacket when waiting at the bus stop before school. It’s also quite likely that there will be some snow on the ground during the winter, and it’s hard to enjoy a good snowball fight when you’re miserably cold. Keeping your children warm means getting them a good jacket, not just the first one you find.

For a really good jacket that looks good and will keep your children warm, you should consider buying Rocawear. Dress your children in layers, put their jacket on them, and they’ll be ready for whatever kind of weather Old Man Winter wants to throw at them. Then you won’t have to worry about what kind of day they’re going to have or if they’re going to be warm enough when they’re not where you can keep an eye on them. Even if the weather is bad, their Roca Wear jacket will protect them and provide them with a lot of warmth.

You can get jackets for very young children and older ones as well, so no one will be left out in the cold with a jacket that isn’t as warm or that doesn’t look as good. As children get a little older, many of them are very fashion conscious. You can stop them from complaining with a Roca Wear jacket, because they’ll love the way that it looks and feels. Once they get one, they won’t want any other kind.
